Logging functionality for custom activities is now available. A patch work provided by Kavitha Chandrasekhar, from Indiana University.

Description:
This patch allows logging of user events in Trident. As mentioned in this thread [http://tridentworkflow.codeplex.com/discussions/229737] Trident logging only logs Workflow events and Activity events to be logged to a log file.
This patch enables logging of User events as well to the log file.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Apply the patch and build and create an msi from Trident code and reinstall Trident.

2. In the Activity code written by user, call the TrackData method inside the overridden Execute method. Data to be logged can be passed as key-value pair to TrackData method (see sample below):

TrackData("SampleDataKey", "This is a user tracking record's user data value");

The TrackData method is the Activity.TrackData(string userDataKey, object userData) method which informs the runtime of the user data that has to be tracked.

3. In Workflow Composer, please select "Monitor Settings" and check "Enable Logging" and select a log file to log Blackboard messages. In addition to workflow and activity events, the above mentioned User events also get logged as Blackboard messages, to the log file. (see sample message below)

Hi,

Please find a patch to the Microsoft.Research.ScientificWorkflow.TridentUtilities.Helper class (BuildReferences method). This supersedes the previous 'patch' I sent, as I encountered some remaining serious performance issues and additional mishaps on dependencies. I have used Trident with the patch applied for several weeks, rebuilding registries often, and it seems to work fine.

Description:
Hi,

Attached is a modification to the method BuildReferences that solved my issue with circular assembly references. I could not make a patch (could not connect to the SVN server) so I submit the whole file. Not sure whether there are unit tests I could run to check it breaks nothing, but the fix is fairly limited in its impact.
